A wonderful way to top off your week

WE'RE not disputing that you make the best Yorkshire puddings this side of the Pennines. Or that your home-made gravy is like the elixir of life on a hungover Sunday.

But we know for a fact that Sunday dinner at your house won't include a live soul band singing a version of 'Drift Away' that'll actually give you goosebumps.

That's what you get at Artisan. We ate there last Sunday and they won us over – first with the music from Elect Sound, and then with the food.

Artisan's Sunday Roasts are £12.95 for a plateful of meat-and-veg heaven. Choose from pink, tender roast beef, roast pork with crackling and apple sauce, and wood-fired roast chicken.

They're all served with massive Yorkshire puds, crispy-soft roast potatoes, buttered carrot and swede, savoy cabbage, and gravy.

Food of this quality deserves a decent glass wine. We had the spicy, earthy Sierre Los Andes malbec with our roast beef. For the chicken and pork they recommend their Il Sacchetto pinot noir.

The live soundtrack and come-as-you-are atmosphere will make you want to linger. Yes waiter, we would very much like to see the dessert menu.

We went for the chocolate and hazelnut brownie, and the sticky toffee pudding. Sundays aren't Sundays without ice cream melting into warm, chocolatey sauce.

By this point, we all had that glowing feeling that comes from enjoying good food with friends. It was relaxing, and thanks to the uplifting music, enlivening too.

There was no Sunday afternoon slump, just a promise to return again soon.
