Stress-free feasting on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and NYE

Don’t sweat it this Christmas Day – leave the cooking and washing-up to The Lowry staff. Sit back and get waited on, from your welcome glass of Prosecco on arrival through the delicious four-course feast the chefs have lined up. Starters include cured sea trout, mushroom and truffle arancini, chicken liver parfait and Cornish hand-picked crab cannelloni with avocado mousse.

An intermediate course includes squash velouté and a candied lemon palate-cleanser, before mains are served. There’s a twist on the traditional, with the turkey and Parma ham roulade and its sides of parsnip purée, chateau potatoes, sprouts and roast veg, and jus. Sous vide rump of High Peak lamb comes with chestnut potato Dauphinoise, shallots and French beans, while fish-lovers should enjoy the pan-fried supreme of wild halibut with chive beurre blanc, cauliflower purée, broccoli and hispi cabbage, and vegetarians are catered for with spinach pithivier pie with cheese sauce, curried parsnips and roasted Jerusalem artichokes.

To finish, sweet teeth have a choice of Christmas pudding with brandy ice cream, or poached pineapple with Michel Cluizel chocolate sauce, while savoury fans are treated to a selection of county cheese and seasonal chutney.Mini mince pies and petits fours accompany teas and coffee, so you don’t even need to lift a finger and put the kettle on when you get in.

Christmas Day lunch is served between 12.30 and 5.30pm (£130 per adult; £60 per child under 12), while Boxing Day sees a special three-course lunch served 12.30 until 4pm (£40 per adult; £20 per child under 12) and New Year’s Eve has a four-course dinner, fizz and fireworks dished up for a proper party (7-10pm; £145 per adult).

Throughout December, The River Restaurant’s lunch and dinner menus will be bringing a festive flavour to the table, with three courses just £25 per person at lunch (noon until 4pm) or £27 at dinner (6-10pm) – and 25% off on Mondays and Tuesdays, for an extra present this year. 

There’s even a seasonal afternoon tea all month, with a glass of mulled wine on arrival, special sandwiches including turkey and stuffing, cakes and dainty fancies such as a Snowman meringue, and scones and tea, starting at just £24 per person – great for kicking back and chilling out after all that gift shopping.
