The footballer-turned-restaurateur has partnered with Foodinate, which provides meals to those in need

Ryan Giggs was spotted serving up a surprise at Manchester charity Mustard Tree this week, when he helped out with the lunchtime sitting. Ryan’s company GG Events & Catering (part of GG Hospitality, which he co-owns with fellow former footie player Gary Neville) has just teamed up with social enterprise Foodinate to provide meals for those in need.

Ryan has worked with Foodinate in the past through his Worsley restaurant George’s, and is keen to contribute to initiatives aimed at helping those in poverty and facing homelessness. The Class of 92 star took time to chat to service users during a tour of the newly refurbished Mustard Tree building on Oldham Road, before heading into the kitchen to help the team serve up lunch to guests and visitors.

He said: “People living, working and visiting Manchester can see the problem and they want to do something about it. It’s great that through this partnership, we can actually make a difference for local people in need.”

His company’s new partnership with Foodinate went live two months ago and means that for every person attending a GG Events & Catering event at the likes of Hotel Football, National Football Museum and Salford City FC, a hot meal is donated – at no extra cost to the GG client – to a person in need at the Mustard Tree project.
