Elsewhere, Hawksmoor founders, Huw Gott and Will Beckett, have been nominated for ‘Restaurateur(s) of the Year’, whilst Cockerill’s mentor, Michael O’Hare, is up for ‘Chef’s Chef of the Year’, against the likes of Heston Blumenthal and Francesco Mazzei.

The annual awards – to be held at London’s Hurlingham Club on 12 June – recognise the UK’s Top 100 restaurants as voted for by a panel of 180 chefs, critics, restaurateurs and experts.

Last year, three Manchester restaurants – The French, El Gato Negro and Manchester House – made the list, as did Northcote in Blackburn and Sticky Walnut in Chester.
