Commuters can now pick up their ‘naturally fast food’ at Piccadilly

With a McDonald’s, a Subway, a Greggs and a Burger King, Piccadilly train station is hardly the go-to place for healthy food options. But, as from this week, a new fast-food joint has joined the fray.

Leon doesn’t sell itself on high calories, deep frying and an excessive fat content, but serves delicious, filling takeout dishes inspired by the natural health properties and flavours to be found in a wider range of globally inspired food.

Leon? Never heard of it

Leon’s first restaurant opened in London in 2004, with a mission statement offering ‘naturally fast food’. Owners John Vincent, Henry Dimbleby (yes, son of David) and chef Allegra McEvedy wanted to give everyone access to reasonably priced, delicious and healthy fast food, making it easier to eat well. There are currently over 45 branches, including the Trafford Centre, with plans to roll more out internationally.

Where is it?

You’ll find its brightly coloured façade sandwiched between Piccadilly Station and Little Waitrose, in a rather convenient little spot for commuters. There are tables inside so food can be eaten in or taken away.

I’m hungry, what can I order?

Leon’s menu is based around the Mediterranean diet; dishes featuring various fruit and vegetables, whole grains, seeds and unrefined cereals. Breakfast is served until 11am and includes a protein packed poached egg pot with ham, various ways with porridge or muffins stuffed with slightly-healthier-that-average options.

All-day options include wraps and fresh salad boxes from the vegan superclean with quinoa to one with chicken, avocado and chorizo. They are also well known for their ‘hot boxes’ which cover takeaway stews, meatballs and curry for up to £6.95.

Leon also offer healthier versions of treats to get you through the mid-afternoon slump; try their PaLeon bar packed with dried fruit and seeds or their ‘Better Brownie’ with less sugar and a high cocoa content for a lightly more virtuous chocolate slap across the chops.
