Plant power to the people

Food, drink and retail destination, Hatch, located on Oxford Road, under the city’s iconic Mancunian Way flyover, will be going plant-powered this January. The food, drink and retail destination will celebrate Veganuary with a series of events curated by Hatch’s resident vegan aficionados – Herbivorous. 

Attendees will be given recipe ideas and shopping tips on how to go plant-based without busting the weekly shopping budget

Founders Robyn and Damian travelled the country serving up vegan street food at music festivals before settling at Hatch where they now bring delicious plant-based eats such as their Big Kahuna burger, vegan arancini and buffalo wings to the city. 

Herbivorous, which is celebrating its third birthday this month too, will also be hosting vegan workshops throughout VeganuaryOn Thursday 16th January, ‘Homemade Meat Substitutes’ is the perfect opportunity for anyone who wants to have a go at creating their own meat alternatives. Robyn will be sharing the secrets of how to produce perfect seitan as well as offering tips on other substitutes to use in place of meat including jackfruit and soya. On Saturday 18th January, various pop-ups will be running throughout the day for a big, brilliant celebration of veganism and vegan lifestyle products. Herbivorous will be running a Vegan Life Hacks stall, showing visitors how to make easier vegan choices. They’ll be suggesting the best apps to download, which websites to watch and who might be worth a follow. There’ll be a meat substitute tasting as well as tips and tricks to make plant based choices easier. It will be a one stop Veganuary survival shop for anyone interested in introducing a little or a lot of plant power into their lives.  

On Thursday 23rd January and Thursday 30th January, Herbivorous will be hosting intimate Vegan Supper Clubs. Guests will be treated to some of Robyn and Damian’s favourite dishes, perfected over time, via a plant based and sustainably sourced four-course dinner. It will all be created and served up in Hatch’s new supper club dining room. Places are strictly limited for this very special event and tickets are available here.

On Sunday 26th January find out how you can sustain your vegan pledges with Herbivorous’ ‘Veganuary on a Budget’ workshop. Attendees will be given recipe ideas and shopping tips on how to go plant-based without busting the weekly shopping budget. Tickets are on sale now and available here. There’ll be special student discounts for food and drink purchased on the day at this event too. 

Housed in colourful shipping containers, Hatch is one of the biggest destinations of its kind in the country and home to some of the most exciting and creative independent businesses in the city. Herbivorous aren’t the only ones celebrating Veganuary at Hatch. There’ll also be offerings from the other traders on site showcasing their own vegan options, including a collaboration between Herbivorous and Parmogeddon…
