From quirky Catalan festivals to cheese tastings, March events are go

The UK’s biggest Spanish deli, an award-winning restaurant-bar, its owners’ unfailing dedication to the region’s best produce…Lunya is known for many things.

But did you know this little slice of Spain (located in the Grade II-listed Barton Arcade, off Deansgate) hosts some great events too?

From quirky veg festivals to top notch tastings, all offer the opportunity to immerse yourself in the cuisine and culture of España.

Fancy giving your spring some Spanish flavour? Here’s what’s coming up in March…

CALÇOTADA | Sunday 17 March | From midday

One of the most famous (and unusual) Catalonian festivals, Calçotada celebrates the seasonal arrival of the ‘calcot’; a Spanish vegetable best described as a cross between a spring onion and a baby leek. Calcots are traditionally charred over flames until soft and sweet on the inside, with a lovely smoky flavour, then wrapped in newspaper, dipped in Romesco sauce - almonds, roasted peppers, olive oil, sherry vinegar - and eaten with the hands. Then follows a selection of traditional dishes, and the pouring of cava from a great height using a porron (a traditional Catalan wine pitcher). Not only is it a unique and enjoyable way to spend an evening, Lunya’s festival menu looks delicioso
