Leeds feels the need for a second Feed

Over the last year, Feed has built up something of a fanbase, not least of all with our own reviewers and of course the Oliver Awards, where it beat the likes of Matt Healy x The Foundry to win best newcomer.  Now, the Vice Group have announced that the Pudsey favourite is coming to Leeds city centre, with a second venue due to open in a few weeks’ time. The venue is currently undergoing a major overhaul to bring it line with its big brother, having been Dough in the City for the last few months.

Chef Jono Hawthorn has created Feed 2's innovative menu

Feed will keep its hipster café and bar vibe going in the premises, showcasing coffee, brunch, craft beer, cocktails and an innovative menu from chef Jono Hawthorne, who has recently taken on the reigns at fine dining restaurant Vice & Virtue (reviewed here), just upstairs from the new premises. And with twelve beer lines and opening hours until 2am, there will be plenty to keep punters interested into the wee small hours.

While the menu for the new Feed has been kept under wraps, it is bound to raise a few eyebrows, with the first restaurant winning plaudits for unusual dishes such as cheeseburger spring rolls and confit duck doughnuts. And the cocktails ought to be pretty good too, coming from the minds behind the menu at Vice & Virtue’s excellent cocktail bar.

Bradford born, Hawthorne has made his name in the industry at a young age. His training began at the Box Tree, Ilkley, and he has since worked in 2 and 3 Michelin starred restaurants around the world including Noma, Denmark, and Australia’s most awarded restaurant, Quay. People of Leeds may also know him for his own XO Supper Club, a series of very successful pop ups in the likes of Oporto and Mr Nobody. Since opening Feed, Hawthorne, now head chef at Vice and Virtue, still has a firm hand in the food offerings at Feed.

'I’m just as excited to now, as I was when opening the first Feed last year,' says Hawthorne. 'We’ve proved a lot in a short space of time, and I’m just an involved in this opening as I was in the Pudsey venture. Feed on Briggate is a step up with our creative ideas. I don’t want to say too much, but they’ll be all your favourites, and some new classics in the making.'

Feed mark 2 will open to the public on the 30th August with a party and various food and drink giveaways throughout the night. Reservations are available now through their website.

Oh, and for fans of Feed in Pudsey, don’t worry: this a second venue, not a replacement.
