You can now shop the Fenty Beauty line at Harvey Nichols

As part of a worldwide launch, Harvey Nichols Manchester joined stores across the UK and USA to reveal the highly anticipated makeup collection by international pop icon, Rihanna.

‘Fenty Beauty’ is the 29-year-old singer’s first cosmetic line, based on her own tried, tested and perfected makeup regime.

It’s an inclusive complexion focused range, featuring over 40 shades of foundations (£26) for all skin tones – a huge triumph in an industry which struggles to reflect nuances in very dark and very pale skin-tones. There’s also a one-colour-fits-all nude lip gloss – the ‘Gloss Bomb Universal’ – again designed to flatter every single woman (£16).

Fenty Beauty aim to replicate Rihanna’s signature radiant complexion with shimmer sticks, primers, pigmented highlighters, universal lip glosses and multi-purpose ‘skin-sticks’.

While a known queen for dramatic transformations (in her decade long career there’s been no hair colour unexplored, and no fashion item too risqué to rock), Rihanna’s cosmetic line isn’t a hotchpotch of eclectic, zany colours some may have anticipated, but instead focuses on creating a natural, youthfully exuberant look dubbed the ‘Fenty Face’.

“The Fenty Face was created for women of all skin tones, of all personalities,” she says. “These steps are key to starting your makeup, no matter the look you’re going for. This is where the fun begins.”

Much like Rih-Rih, the range is fun and edgy, with tongue-n-cheek names like ‘ginger binge', 'trophy wife' and 'Moscow mule’. Still, for a celebrity-endorsed line it’s a considered and accomplished debut, championing diversity and inclusivity above all else. What's more, Fenty Beauty is 100% cruelty-free and boasts accessible price points with the majority of products under £30.

It's a solid debut for Fenty Beauty and the brand seems sure to rival not just celebrity fronted cosmetic lines such as Kim Kardashian's 'KKW', but also premium and designer makeup already on the high street.

“Makeup is there for you to have fun with,” said Rihanna ahead of the launch. “It should never feel like a pressure. It should never feel like a uniform. Feel free to take chances, and take risks, and dare to do something new or different.”
