A NICKNAME such as 'The Body' is not bestowed upon just anybody. And to still be known worldwide by that name after your fiftieth birthday is another thing altogether.

"We underestimate how important it is to be well nourished. We only think about nutrition in terms of diet and do I look skinnier?"

Supermodel Elle Macpherson has always been known for her stunning looks and figure. Her long, thick mane of hair and glowing skin aren't just down to the work of an excellent hair and make up artist, but from a healthy lifestyle and diet too. Macpherson has always been known for her 'my body is a temple' attitude, but even she has reportedly found herself feeling flat.

"I've taken super greens, or at least green things, all of my career, but I found I wasn't feeling great and that my body wasn't working the way it normally does," explained the supermodel, who turned 50 in March this year. "I felt out of balance and I couldn't figure out why because I was taking a lot of supplements, going to gym and eating well."

"I was low in energy and overall feeling flat. My original formula just wasn't working anymore," she added.

Feeling tired and lacklustre can be down to age certainly, after all we don't feel the same at 50 as we do at 25. "I needed to change and adapt as my body changed, but in a graceful and educated way. I was asking myself how do I transform into the next phase?"

It was this search for a new way to energise herself that led Macpherson to meet Dr Simone Laubscher, a disease prevention specialist based at Harley Street in London. "Elle came to me with the symptoms that we've all felt; low in energy, craving sugar, skin was very dry, joints were aching, problems sleeping, feeling flat, bloated and gaining weight. I have patients in their twenties, their sixties and seventies that all experience this."

But this new supplement powder isn't just about losing weight, it's about a feeling of wellness and vitality or as Macpherson calls it, "body maintenance," she said, "I come from an era of fashion that really idealised health and beauty. That supermodel era was unique and represented all beauty, and we were healthy girls - even if we did like to party now and then."

"Also being Australian I grew up with a real respect for health and wellness, and having it directly relate to how you look, not just your body shape but how your skin looks and how your hair looks, so I've always been interested in fitness and wellbeing. It's been my career for many years so I've had to."

Macpherson has always been known for her healthy ways, including taking many supplements. Laubscher recalled, "She came in with a bag of goodies and spilled about thirty supplements on my desk. I'm taking all of these products and I exercise and move my body everyday and I've always done this and now it's not working. I'm taking all of this, why don't I feel good?"

The supplement is designed to aid an alkaline diet, which many are choosing for its benefits. Both Macpherson and Laubscher stress that this is not a supplement designed to replace a meal, like so many products currently on the market.

Macpherson explained, "The Super Elixir gives me energy without being speedy and it helps me to sleep well and wake up feeling refreshed instead of broken. We [Laubscher and Macpherson] created this supplement for me, not just for business and it's something I believe in. We worked together and went back and forth over this like cooks to create something that we're passionate about. We spent six months working on the taste alone."

Laubscher added, "It has a sweetness without sugar. We chose a pineapple and lime taste for our elixir. It has 45 ingredients in, all of which are the highest quality."

The Super Elixir enters a market flooded with supplements and vitamins that are constantly criticised by cynics and those looking for a quick diet fix. Still, if we can look as good as Elle at 50 then the Super Elixir is clearly onto a winner.

The Super Elixir is available online here or in store at Selfridges.
